The Medina and the Sabinal River are the two main rivers but many creeks and streams flow in the area. Medina Lake is one of the largest assets of Bandera County. Efforts are being made to make it a constant level lake, but it has been the main source for farmers south in Medina County.

Bandera boasts a county park for access to Medina Lake and there are 2 State parks available for horseback trails and hiking.
Lost Maples Park is in Vanderpool Texas with truly amazing “Maple” trees and stunning Sabinal River and creeks.
Hill Country State Natural Area is to the south and west of the town of Bandera at the end of 1077. This is a amazing place to take your horse and go trail riding. The whole park is setup for horses!!

Bandera County allows hunting on more than 10 acers if it is not in a subdivision that has restrictions against it. The wild game hunting in the county is amazing with abundant wildlife like free rooming Axis and White Tail deer, Wild boar, turkey and many types of exotic game like Fallow deer, multiple types of antelope and a large variety of wild sheep and goats like Aoudad.
